About the Artwork

Boeys Büffel entitled A fashion-a-bull moment reads like a magazine collage of fashion icons. Boey explains, "this piece was inspired by Kanye West's on-off battle with the fashion industry, which gave rise to some of the industry's most magnificent quotes. In the words of Yeezy, I'm helping people follow the law in style. I'm helping people with their opinion of how to follow the law. This isn't about fashion. I'm creating new standards: things so you don't have to think about it ... it's about life and me helping it become more awesome.

About the Artist

The affirmative decision to work in fashion wasn't instantaneous for Singapore's eminent Fashion /Creative director Daniel Boey. In fact Boey chose to study English Literature and Geography at National University of Singapore because they were subjects he was good at and interested in. What else did Boey learn at University? A whole lot more than just academics, claims Boey, "I think many people have the misconception of education. It's not just study and do well in exams and you are done. School is where you develop skills that help you in your life. If it weren't for school and the organising skills and writing skills and all the other things I learnt, I would not be who I am today". He was ebullient during his university days with extra-curricular activities participating in the arts club, swim team and acting. After graduating with a BA in 1989, Boey decided to travel through Europe, which was an eye-opening experience and where the fashion bug took hold. Having dipped into acting (performing in Michael Chiang's production of Private Parts), and despite being first drawn to embark on a theatre career, he felt he had nothing to lose and everything to gain if he tried his hand at fashion first. Enabling him to marry his two interests, the decision to pave a flourishing career in fashion and event choreography proved to be the correct choice.
