About the Artist

Disability: Hearing Impairment

Ng Siang Hoi enjoys painting nostalgic scenes of old Singapore and capturing particular areas of the city that are slowly disappearing. Chinatown and the Singapore River are some of his favourite haunts and he likes to visit the places he wants to paint when he gets the time. Although painting is a hobby he wishes he could turn it into a proper career, but it isn't always easy with a full-time job to find the time or space to paint, taking up to a month to finish off a canvas. Despite his hearing impairment from birth, this has not been a handicap for Ng when it comes to painting, which he has taken seriously since the age of 14. "Art is a means for me to communicate my joy and expressions" explains Ng.
