About the Artwork

The artist, Chuan Yew Eng asserts, "Batik is a material that has very nice lines and dots, and as a person who loves material, I always admire batik cloth sewn into a dress or other forms". With Bull dressed in Batik, Chuan delves into her South East Asian background and paints an immaculately detailed Batik bull, cloaked in the exact pattern and texture so it visibly resembles the traditional fabric well known in this region.

About the Artist

Disability: Paraplegic

"Life is meaningless without art" says Chuan Yew Eng, whose interest in art bloomed after attending an art program with VSA in 2006. Now it is very much a part of her life. She doesn't let her disability as a paraplegic slow down her many activities, and she maintains an optimism that is beyond commendable. Chuan takes her art seriously and continuously seeks to improve her skills, attending many lessons in Western and Chinese art. She is unafraid to try new techniques as well, having explored Chinese finger painting and digital art. She is meticulous and strives to do only her best in whatever work she undertakes, asking her audience to "simply enjoy my art".
