About the Artwork

Chng Seok Tin's Golden Bull signifies prestige and preciousness. It is black on one side, representing night, whilst the red represents daylight. Chng states that the black and red also represent how life can be full of ups and downs, how times can be rough and smooth, as detailed on the Bffel, much like a reflection of her own life.

About the Artist

Disability: Visual Impairment with 10 percent vision

Having gained an MA degree from New Mexico State University in 1981, and then also a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa in 1985, Chng was already an accomplished artist. However in 1988 an essential operation to remove an abscess from her brain left the artist with only 20% vision in her right eye. This meant she had to re-learn to be an artist with a visual impairment, working harder than normal to apply the tools of the trade she once knew how to perform instinctively.
