About the ArtworkGuided by the more formal principles of art, Debra Teng states "Form follows function, as the tenet of modern architecture goes. Similarly here, art follows form". Her Büffel entitled bRAWN Buffel is a figurine made up of bold bright, almost fluorescent colours in porcelain paint. Teng describes "The straight lines are inspired by the sculpture's strong masculine and angular lines along its body, symbolizing the confines of the structure we all live within. Whilst this bull accepts that we need structures and order to stand strong, we will not be constrained by it. Its passion for life bursts through with an explosion of raw colours that celebrates life at its most raw". Acknowledging that there are many facets of the human spirit, Teng uses her bull to illustrate her own attitude to life and how she chooses to lead it. "The duality within us is captured by the sculpture's other side which exhibits its inner personality...the whipping tail sends ripples of waves and colour across its form, at once whimsical and dancing in technicolour, at once strong and powerful caressing the muscular curves of the bull. It?s about the passion and celebration of life, the dancing, the colours, the vibrancy....raw, unbridled, brave, joyful. Whilst we accept there are rules in life, we do not need to be ruled by life. Be fierce, live life."
