About the Artwork

Having started with figurative painting, Foad Hassan has branched into landscape and the natural world. However when appreciating Hassan's Büffel today, the viewer observes how his subject-matter and fascination has moved on further still. Pre-occupied with the changes that influence modern day, the artist conveys a strong message with his industrial themed büffel, entitled Timeless Piece. Displaying the cogs and screws and the internal workings of a mechanical bull painted against a bright yellow backdrop, therein represents the irony of Hassan's figurine -the differences between the creation of Nature and the creation of Man. "The piece denotes submission to the universal and inevitable mechanization of our world today; how we suffocate those of the natural world to promote those of the industrial, thereby creating a decay of natural beauty" claims Hassan philosophically. "The precise and unnatural angles in which the bull has been carved describes the contortion of the natural subject to fit into the whimsical ideals of Man by Man himself".
