About the Artwork

There is a symbiosis for Chiara Calufetti-Lim's participation in the Büffel Art Project that stems from her background in art and architecture and the worldly experiences that influence her work. In honour of her adopted home country Singapore, the artist has painted Straits Bull selecting a Peranakan theme, faithfully represented and projecting a distinctly local flavour. Her selection of pretty colours and decorative floral patterns are indeed familiar to the viewer, although paradoxically found on a strong, masculine animal such as the bull. Calufetti-Lim states that the design of the Büffel is a tribute to the company's phase of growth in the region, and communicates "something that is uniquely Singapore".

About the Artist

Born and raised in Italy, Italian artist Chiara Calufetti-Lim received informal art training from established local artists but decided to study and practice architecture in Venice instead of pursuing her art calling. In the last 20 years her career and family have taken her to three different continents, residing in cities like Venice, Lisbon, San Francisco and finally Singapore, where in 2008 she decided to call home after 15 years of visiting Asia.

Calufetti-Lim sold her first painting in her teens but made the decision to work professionally as an architect, painting for only family and friends. Recently however, she has gained exposure and success exhibiting and selling her work at exhibitions and art fairs in Singapore. Witnessing the joy that her paintings have brought to the viewer, she has discovered a greater motivation to paint with ever more zeal and positive energy. Her international and multi-cultural experiences are reflected in her abstract art, which finds inspiration from universal elements and shared feelings experienced by each of us as individuals.
